He’s been working overtime to help the people of his home country of Haiti as they recover from the devastating earthquake earlier this year, and now Wyclef Jean is taking it to the next level.

The Fugees hitmaker has confirmed that he’ll be running for the office of President of Haiti at this year’s election.

Wyclef told press, "If not for the earthquake, I probably would have waited another 10 years before doing this. The quake drove home to me that Haiti can't wait another 10 years for us to bring it into the 21st century."

"If I can't take five years out to serve my country as president, then everything I've been singing about, like equal rights, doesn't mean anything."
